About us

Great Panes began its operation in 1992 but long before that my talents were nurtured. I began sewing at a very young age under the wonderful guidance and watchful eye of my first teacher, my Mom, Peggy Wegman, herself an amazing seamstress and very patient woman.

While I was at Our Lady of Mercy High School I managed to fit in two of my favorite electives: "Sewing" and then in senior year, "Tailoring". Who needs Physics, anyway!?!

My passion for designing, fabrics and sewing were always there but I decided to go on for my Nursing Degree after high school. My nursing career of 18 years, mostly concentrating on Pediatric nursing as my specialty, was very satisfying and challenging, but I desired an outlet for my creative energies and unending interest in interior design.

In 1992 with the encouragement of my husband, Paul, and family I started Great Panes. My brother-in-law, Steve Hogan, deserves credit for the name of my business. I love the short name and feel it gives you a good idea of what my business is all about. Thanks, Steve!

To nourish my interest and become a true window treatment specialist and expert in the field and have a successful business, I knew I needed more education. I frequently attend professional conferences, seminars and trade shows and have read and continue to read countless books on design, fabrication and business. I keep up to date on the latest trends, colors and styles through industry publications as well as professional organizations that I belong to. The bottom line is that I love what I do, I am a professional and keeping current in this business is an ongoing and never ending goal that I offer you.

As owner of Great Panes, I, Nancy Hogan, will work with you. I provide the convenience of coming to your home or office. First and foremost I will listen to you and get to know you. "Catering to your design style" I will work with you from start to finish helping you select the proper Hunter Douglas "hard treatments" meaning blinds, shades or shutters for your needs. Then I assist you in selecting your "soft treatments" meaning those made from fabrics. I use fundamentals of design, proportion and color to advise you on your style and fabric selections.

Attention is given to every detail of your order including accurate measurements, as well as the best interlining, lining, trims, embellishments, and drapery hardware. Drawing upon my extensive knowledge, quality couture fabrication, creativity, imagination and experience, your order is custom made and professionally installed just for you.
